Top Ten Sewing Songs

At the moment when I’m sewing you’ll probably hear these songs drifting through my door, accompanying the whiz or whir of my sewing machine. Unless, of course, I’ve got so caught up in the song and am singing into a pair of scissors or whatever else I have at hand. If you’ve heard that… sorry?

So… here are my top ten songs at the moment:

I’m a Lady – Meghan Trainor

I love this song because it’s so positive and confident. I would totally dance around to this when I’m dressed historically because, oh yes, I am a lady. Always a lady.

Roundtable Rival – Lindsay Stirling

This song is an instant pick me up and never fails to put me in a good mood. And a good mood means that I’m going to enjoy my current sewing task even more.

Most Girls – Hailee Steinfield

Yip, I am a huge fan of any song that is positive and encouraging of women proudly being themselves.

You Gotta Not – Little Mix

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/1YsK7uP9LHlqJJO3FHrKTb

It’s a fun song and since I’m such a huge fan of both Little Mix and Meghan Trainor then it’s not a surprise that this song has so much airtime on my Spotify.

I’m Stuck – Noah Cyrus

What can I say – I love fun songs and at the moment this is a definite earworm.

Angel By The Wings – Sia

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/4OLVK3kktkdLPp8dDgoCtb

I love Sia and all of her songs – this is no exception. While it isn’t as bright and pop-y as most of the songs on this list I have to listen to this song at least once every day. It’s such a powerful song about being able to do what you want and can definitely be related to historical costuming. You want to make a whole new outfit in an era you haven’t sewn in before? Why not? Because ‘you can do anything.’

Hey Hey Hey – Katy Perry

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/7nY0TjOsD1BZehkZgLiOxO

Even though I found half of Katy’s latest album a bit underwhelming, I really like this song. It’s another positive I-am-woman-hear-me-roar kind of song (it seems this list has a bit of a theme…) and either plays well in the background, or you can sing along to it.

The Skye Boat Song – Bear McCreary, Raya Yarbrough

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/3RQPR2TN3DIj4dqDUEE2LO

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/0aXahq8EEE24dv5jD1YaMB

Because I’m impatiently waiting for the next season of Outlander!

Victoria – The Suite – Martin Phipps, Benji Merrison, Mediaeval Babes

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/3YmouyRz2z9DrPK0Z9W7dB

I also can’t wait for the next season of Victoria and this is just a really pretty piece of music. Very regal.

Homemade Dynamite – Lorde

https://open.spotify.com/embed/track/12o6dxWGk29uIAP3OWY0pM

What kind of Kiwi would I be if I wasn’t a Lorde fan? She has such an awesome, creative style of music.

I have so many other songs on constant rotation so my top ten list changes often. Maybe when it’s looking a lot different to this I’ll post up a new list. I love the power that music has to make you feel or to alter your mood. It’s amazing how hearing the right song can put you into an ‘I just want to create something’ mood and the next thing you know, you’re several songs deep and your project has progressed so quickly.

It doesn’t matter what your favourite genre of music is – whether you love Classical music, soundtracks, pop, rock, or if you have a more ecletic taste. If you work better with music playing then it just makes sense to listen toeclecticer makes you feel good.
